Mantis® Welding Trials and Demonstration Ahead of FAT
Highlights
• DST®
-powered Mantis® robot is complete and commissioned
• High deposition rate welding trials are progressing well
• Completion of Factory Acceptance Test expected soon
Thursday, 24 September 2026 – Robotic technology company FBR Limited (ASX: FBR) (“FBR” or “the
Company”) is pleased to announce that the first DST®
-powered Mantis® high deposition welding robot is
operating and progressing towards conducting its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). Welding trials using Mantis®
are being undertaken at FBR’s facility following the completion of first machine construction, commissioning
and calibration for high deposition welding. These trials are a precursor to FAT and are testing the various
aspects of FAT with pleasing results to date. Passing the FAT is the only conditional aspect of the sale contract
to State Machinery and Equipment Sales in the USA and is a precursor to payment and shipping.
Mantis™ is a large welding robot with 8m (26ft) reach
Mantis® incorporates DST®
which was previously developed by FBR for the Hadrian® bricklaying robot. FBR’s
experience with Hadrian® DST® has enabled the rapid design, manufacture, commissioning and testing of
Mantis®.

The twin wire welding system on Mantis® produces high-quality welds at very high production rates. The FAT
requires a minimum travel speed for fillet welds of 30cm/min. Mantis® has produced welds at 120cm/min.
Human welders often weld at only 13cm/min.
Mantis® produces high quality welds. This 6.5mm 2F weld was produced at 90cm/min travel
speed (10mm 350MPa mild steel / 1.2mm ER70S6 80/20Ar/CO2 Twin).
Mantis® is designed to serve the global heavy fabrication, ship building, mining and defence industries.
The first Mantis® has been sold to State Machinery and Equipment Sales in Kenner, Louisiana. FBR has
appointed Industrial Robotics as a distributor in the USA and they have leads with a number of potential
customers. Industrial Robotics will be promoting Mantis® at the International Workboat Show in New Orleans
from 2 December 2026, ahead of the arrival of the first Mantis® unit in the USA.
FBR has received strong interest from Australian and global customers with demonstrations scheduled to
showcase the capabilities of Mantis® following the FAT.
FBR’s CEO, Mark Pivac commented:
“Our team has made excellent progress with the development of the DST®-powered Mantis® robot. We are
achieving excellent weld quality and production speeds faster than human welders typically achieve.

Mantis® was developed initially as a way for robots to manufacture and weld big robot parts like those on
Hadrian®. Our vision is to have robots making robots. We also realised there was a massive industrial need for
welding robots with more reach than the currently available robots and for a welding robot that was both highly
productive and easy to use. Our DST® solves the reach issue by enabling a long boom to be stabilized to the
accuracy needed for welding. AI-assisted robot programming provides a solution to ease of use and is now a
core competency of FBR.
Mantis® will be used in many industries. It provides large scale robotic reach and was designed from the ground
up to work with very high deposition rate welding which makes it very competitive and highly productive. I look
forward to completing FAT and demonstrating Mantis® to interested parties who have been very helpful with
application information and supportive during its development.”
This announcement has been authorised for release to the ASX by the FBR Board of Directors.

About FBR Limited
FBR Limited (ASX: FBR) designs, develops and builds dynamically stabilised robots to address global needs in
a safer, more efficient and more sustainable way. These robots are designed to work outdoors using the
company’s core Dynamic Stabilisation Technology®
(DST®
).
Applications of DST® include the Hadrian®, Mantis™ and Firehawk™. Hadrian® is a bricklaying robot that builds
structural walls faster, safer, more accurately and with less wastage than traditional manual methods.
Hadrian® provides Wall as a Service®, FBR’s unique commercial offering, to builders on demand. Hadrian®
robots are also available for purchase by order. Mantis™ is a high deposition welding robot for the large-scale
metal fabrication industries such as mining, shipbuilding and defence manufacture. Firehawk™ is an
autonomous refractory lining robot that removes human labour from the process of lining ladles used in steel
production with refractory bricks.
